i had to try to get some landscape-y shots for my advertising class - and what a better place to go than to *phipps conservatory*! so, here are some pics.

portrait photography - project 12, the other half
ok...pissing around even more with my flash. i kinda wish dan's eyes were a little more in focus, instead of his ancient projector, but i'm pretty keen on this one.
and then, using the rear sync flash. i know this wasn't part of the project, but apparently it got me an A+! jeff looks so evil. *love it*!
two more projects to go. i have to take a photo using two lights, and then a fashion photo. i'm gonna try to use chris for that one. he's perty interesting looking. should work out well. :)

i'm liking this flash! but i'm still not 100% on how to use it. so far, i grabbed these for "portrait using fill flash"

let me just say that i have a very weird boyfriend. he was *purposely* going for the payne stewart look. his work had a company golf outing and he wore this outfit. he received a prize for being "best dressed". hehe.

portrait photography - project # 9
this week's project is to have more than one person in a portrait photo. because i was in DC all weekend, i didn't really get to pose anyone properly until last night. this is the one i'm going to turn in, but i suspect i won't get much of a grade for it. it was my favorite out of the three i took because her hand is on his junk. haha.
maybe i should crop that. nothing weirder than old people groping each other. ha! if necessary, i'll dig into the archives and see if this one will get a better grade. prolly not, but consider it pandering. :)

this one was a portrait photo that represented mood. it was to be submitted in black and white - which i think really takes away from the "mood" of my submission! but whatever. i had to dig in the archives for this one, too. i was hoping that the rally would give me some better portraits with mood...so...here ya go:
the one i wanted to turn in:
the one i actually turned in:
and the one i will turn in if this one gets anything lower than a B:

rally to restore sanity
apparently i made the post-gazette over this rally.
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10304/1099578-176.stm#ixzz13zkMcNj0
"Lisa E., of Greensburg, came to photograph a crowd she saw as a sequel to the G-20 affair in Pittsburgh last year. She's a photographer who likes to use "crazy, wonderful people like the anarchists" as her subjects.
i love how misquoted i was! if any of you know this kid, i'd like to have a talk with him! hehe. although, i really do love me some anarchy...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lisa-e/sets/72157625159533797/
anyways, here are two of my faves from the rally:
afterwards, jeff and i went walking around DC , seeking the obligatory obscene photo opportunity with the washington monument. you can go to my flickr page to check those out, but here are two faves from our endeavors:

portrait photography - project # 7
i know, i know - i'm a week ahead. i guess i felt i had to make up for the late turning in of project # 5. this week's topic: children, and make it sepia. ooh, how fun. i have one of the most photogenic girls to work with, and then one of the cutest. i kinda had to turn this in while i had the pics because we're not having the kids again until the weekend of the 22nd. though, we might be taking brandon to see jackass 3-D. yup. great parenting over here.
anyways, here's the one i wanted to turn in:
and here's the one that the teacher preferred:
and, of course, my honorable mention. i printed this on a 5x7 and stuck it on the fridge. sometimes this d90 really surprises me:
i'm glad i'm a week ahead. now i can focus on the two subjects that are giving me the most trouble: advertising (online...so totally sucks!) and public relations (big project due monday).
anyways, here's the one i wanted to turn in:

portrait photography - project # 6
and this one was a full body portrait. i was lucky enough to get lots of full body shots when i did project # 5. we were told the most important thing when taking portrait pics was to get the subject(s) in their most natural state. this is what i turned in:
i pulled this one out of the archives from basic photography. it was my "environmental portrait" picture that i took of paco in the spring. it got a pass, but i just love the colors in his studio!
portrait photography has been pretty challenging, as i hate having to talk to people. "can i take your picture? will you sit still? do i need to bribe you?" i'm getting used to it. :)

project # 5 was for us to take a studio portrait using flash. because of the sync terminal necessary to trip the flashes, i had to go and buy one! as you may know, we students are not permitted to use the school cameras during studio lab time, unless we're being supervised by a teacher. this is why i cannot wait to start taking classes at my *other* (and additional) college this spring.
so, these were two of my faves:

and, of course i'd like to thank the jessicas...

cemetery picture of the day
yes, i know everyone is at the zombie walk in dtown pittsburgh tonight. yes, i agree that photos at that event would be bad-ass, totes. yes, i would rather be there than sitting here watching family guy. but, hey, whatcha gonna do? i can't be everywhere all the time.
so, in lieu of the rebirth of my flickr page, here's a link (and a fave) from today's exploration of the greensburg catholic cemetery on donahue road.

flickr! i'm back!
about a year ago, i made the biggest mistake of my life - deleting my flickr page.
i really don't know why i deleted my flickr page. i had the page since 2006 and nurtured every single upload with time, effort and accuracy! now i have to sort through 10,000+ photos, 15 cities, 2 continents, 4 countries - and re-upload everything. i know that there are a lot of photos that i have lost over time - like all the pics that i had scanned and put in my "greensburg" set, and my 1991-1996 "raver" set. i also lost my TOTALLY AWESOME G20 PICS! seriously? the very first project i did with my new d90 and I LOST ALL THE FREEKING PICS?!? GARGH!
i also know that converting my new-found love of RAW into .jpg is going to take lots of time. but this time, i promise, i will not dump 4 years of building an awesome collection of photos.
what you will find on my flickr page:
1. my travels to australia and new zealand
2. my travels throughout the US
3. lots and lots of graffiti pictures
4. my work at this college
5. my work at my other college
6. anything that i do on film
and lots more! so tune in...it's a work in progress, but it's totally awesome!

portrait photography - project # 4
we were meant to turn in a b+w shot (i'm sick of these black and whites already!) that was taken in the studio with hot lights. these three were my favorites:
we get a bit of a break between this week and next week, so i 'll have to work on a different project for posting on this here blog. i'm hoping to get some pics developed from my diana pretty soon. i bet they all turned out like poop.
on a side note, apparently i have a stalker. not too happy about this. so, the blog is out. meh.
amber
this girl is just so pretty! i know i caught her when she was in school and all, so she's probably not as "done up" as she could be, but i bet she looks pretty fierce when she goes out on the weekends! ![]() |
| miss amber |
gary
this is the one i turned in, and it was done in black and white. i just don't like b+w! especially not with this groovy green background. i should have lit up the side of his head a little better...or just made him take off his hat. but you don't want to see gary without his hat. seriously! :)![]() |

my purrrfect little anime queen! i wished that the teacher would have given me better (or any) feedback about this picture, but he passed it over. prolly cause of the pose. whatevs. 'twas me fave!![]() |

a Diana F+ for Lisa E!
so, recently i decided to get into lomography. what is it? go here:
http://www.lomography.com/
here are a couple examples of what a lomograph looks like:
there are a few cameras that i could have purchased, but behold the beauty of the diana f+:
i was given a slew of 120 film and i don't have a medium format camera. i've heard lots about lomography, and figured it'd be something cool to get into - especially since my photography is not at an "expert" level. this was made very clear to me by those people at the westmoreland photographer's society. i just joined it a week ago. it kinda went like this:
me: hi, i'm a student. here are a few of my pictures.
them: hi, welcome to our group. your pictures suck.
wonderful. thanks for f*#@ing having me.
so, this is what i got...a camera and a free book:
honestly, i don't even know where to go to develop the film. i don't even know how to load the camera yet! but it's exciting...let's see what happens.

the topic for this week was a candid b+w with no flash.
it's really hard to find subjects that will sit still, or ones that look less grumpy. if any of you feel like being my model in subsequent classes, let me know. i can pay you with food or beer, whichever you are old enough to have. :)
if it were up to me, i would have turned in this.

wccc club fair contest
i don't know you know this, but on 9/8 + 9/9, there was a club fair here at wccc. this was organized to recruit new students into one (or more) of the wonderful, *fun-filled* clubs that are provided at the school. since i am the newest member of the art club, i found myself decorating, and then subsequently manning, the art club booth for day two.
there was a theme for all participants: good v. evil - kind of like an action hero v. villan thing. they had a contest where you could design your own action hero. somehow, i won the "hero" category. i got a great package of goodies, compliments the student activities board.
1. the movie, "kick ass" (which, btw, kicks ass!)
2. bunches of movie-sized candy
3. $25 gift certificate to the movies, $25 gift certificate to red lobster
i know you want to see my winning entry!
thank you to whomever voted me the "winner". i'm sure i'm doing the art club proud with my mad coloring skillz...
